ŠIELLA – Amulet

Saturday, September 27, 2025 - Annantalo - 1:00 PM

The Sámi culture is coming to Kolibrí Festivaali for the first time! Sámi artist Petra Biret Magga-Vars shares her traditional crafts workshop:

“Reindeer are a key part of Sámi culture and lifestyle. Through reindeer, we've learned to observe nature and its changes. Each reindeer antler is unique. If you look at a herd of reindeer, no two antlers are the same.

We humans are also different, but we belong to the same colourful herd. Each of us has our own language, culture, and customs. I bring you greetings from my reindeer in the north, who donate their antlers to the workshop participants.

In the workshop, we'll make a ŠIELLA good luck charm with reindeer antler and wooden beads, to remind us of the importance of nature and the human community, which is like the reindeer herd. Bures boahtin! – We welcome you!”.

This activity is possible thanks to the support by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
