Jaranas del Norte is an artistic collective established in 2019 in Helsinki. Since then, they have become the primary promoters of son jarocho in Finland and Nordic Europe.
Son jarocho is a folk musical style originally from the state of Veracruz, Mexico, which blends indigenous, Spanish, and African musical influences.
Jaranas del Norte has performed at significant venues across Finland, such as the traditional Kaustinen Folk Music Festival in Central Ostrobothnia, the Helsinki Festival Etno-Espa, Helsinki Feel, Music Heals, and the Day of the Dead celebrations at the National Museum of Finland. They also organize fandangos and son jarocho workshops, such as "Café con pan," at Kolibrí Festivaali 2021, and Helinä Rautavaara Museum in 2024. During the Spring of 2025 Jaranas del Norte, in collaboration with Ku'um Collective, has organised a series of fandangos in Tekstin talo.
In their concert in Kolibrí 2025, band members will be:
Paola Nieto (MX): zapateado, dance and voice.
Grisell MacDonel (MX-FI): leona and voice.
Yesmith Sánchez (MX-FI): jarana and voice.
