Ilmi has been working as a director at the Finnish Reading Centre for six years. The organization promotes reading, literacy and literature. It arranges author visits and produces materials, information, reports, services and expertise for schools, libraries, the general public, media and policy makers. The Finnish Reading Centre is also responsible for major national reading campaigns such as Bookstart Finland. Ilmi believes it’s very important to provide information and support for reading to every child in Finland, regardless of background or mother tongue. The Bookstart programme, for instance, offers materials for families in 15 languages. Another programme, the book gift is available also in four common foreign languages spoken in Finland.
